Mark 6:1-13, March 4
Mark 6:1-13
According to Mark 6:1-13, Jesus (the “carpenter”) was rejected by Nazareth (his hometown). However, that did not stop him and his disciples from carrying their mission into the greater world. They continued loving and teaching others with courage, faith and strength.
They broke down barriers of unbelief around and within the world as it then existed. They were empowered by the Holy Spirit to bring healing; share the gospel, and advance God’s kingdom, whether they were accepted or rejected in their sacred mission.
Through this beginning, there are five basic lessons that Jesus taught and exemplified:
1.Don’t be a Christian alone. (The disciples worked in pairs).
2.Remember who Jesus is. (He was always the example to follow).
3.Travel light. (The disciples left Nazareth with only their staffs and their sandals).
4.Don’t be discouraged if/when you fail. (There are always more people and needs to be met).
5.Don’t be afraid to tell the truth. (The Bible IS our guide.).
Whatever the obstacle; whatever the response; whatever the lack of faith; whatever the personal rejection……Jesus kept on and so should we.
Amen
