Mark 3:23-35, February 26
Devotional for February 26th
Mark 3: 23 - 35
Jesus’ friends and immediate family were concerned for his safety because of the crush of the crowds that so closely surrounded him. As He was teaching, his friends brought word to Him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, asking for you”. Instead of going out to see them, Jesus looked around at the people who sat around Him, and said “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God is my brother, and sister, and mother.”
What a window into the loving heart of Jesus! He had experienced the unlimited agape love of the Father from all eternity. He had experienced the sacrificial love of his parents, Mary and Joseph since his human birth. In this context Jesus extends to his followers, and to us, an unimaginable object lesson. We are His family in a sense that is greater than all human blood relations. Through God’s immeasurable love and grace, we are invited to be Jesus’ brothers and sisters! We love Him because He first loved us.
Thanks be to our God.
