Mark 2:18-3:6, February 24
Mark 2:23-3:6
February 2:24
In Mark 2:23-3:6 we are told that the Sabbath is made for man… that we are to rest on the Sabbath. However, in this passage, Jesus’ disciples picked grain on the Sabbath, and Jesus healed a man’s shriveled hand on the Sabbath… neither were permitted on the Sabbath according to the Pharisees. Sabbath laws were more important to the Pharisees than Sabbath rest. Jesus was not concerned with the Pharisees interpretation about what was permissible on the Sabbath.
He does not let the Pharisees words or even silence influence him. Jesus looks at the Pharisee’s hearts and gets angry and does what he knows is best and the right thing to do, He heals the man’s hand.
I pray that in whatever situation we find ourselves in, especially in these polarized times, that we ask God for wisdom before speaking or acting… that we will have courage… that whatever we do or say will bring glory to Him… and that we live to please God, not man.
