Deacon's Fund

Deacons’ Fund Policies and Guidelines
At First Presbyterian Church (FPC), Boone, “We are a family of faith called to grow in the love of Christ, share that Good News, and serve the world.” As we seek to live out this mission, the Deacons’ Fund allows our members to share God’s love by giving to those in need, both in our church, and in the community. The Deacon’s Fund is guided by the principles found in God’s word:
  • God calls us to share in unity and love: All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. - Acts 4:32
  • God calls us to give with joyful hearts: Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. - 2 Corinthians 9:7
  • God calls us to love our neighbor as ourselves: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these. - Mark 12:30-31

About the Deacons’ Fund
“The ministry of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, the oppressed, those burdened by unjust policies or structures, or anyone in distress” (Book of Order, 2019, p. 26). The deacons have the responsibility to oversee the Deacons’ Fund by deciding to whom disbursements will be made, in what amount, and for what duration, if applicable.

The deacons, with merciful hearts, will diligently consider requests due to an emergency, unexpected circumstances or any other special care situation. These funds will encompass pressing needs including housing, food, clothing, medical treatment, transportation, counseling services or funeral expenses. The Deacons’ Fund will receive income through contributions by individuals and/or families who wish to contribute to the Deacons’ Fund.  If you would like to support the Deacon's Fund with a gift, you can do so on the giving page.

All contributions to the Deacons’ Fund are unconditional, i.e., gifts cannot be earmarked or designated for specific purposes or recipients.
