The season of Lent is upon us! These next 40 days, marked by the bookends of Ash Wednesday on one side and Easter on the other, provides us the opportunity to draw closer to Christ as we journey with him to Jerusalem’s cross, and the empty tomb on Easter. The season of Lent allows us space to devote ourselves in prayer, study, fasting, and sacrificial giving. For years, First Presbyterian has allowed this season space to move us beyond ourselves in caring for and serving our neighbors in need whether locally or globally.  Sunday, March 9, the Mission Committee will provide information about our Lenten mission focus during the Sunday school hour (9:30-10:15am) in the sanctuary. Whether you are already involved in a Sunday school class or not, please come learn about this wonderful mission opportunity!

Our Mission Committee has prayerfully decided to support our local neighbors who have been affected by Hurricane Helene. As you know, many of our creeks rose to levels we’ve never seen in our lifetime. In doing so, they wiped out bridges that provided connectivity for folks to leave home and get around. Many of our neighbors do not have the necessary funding nor have they been approved for FEMA help to repair or rebuild a new bridge. Pastor Darrell Roberts of Harvest House Church will be our guest speaker on Sunday. He’ll be sharing the work he and his congregation have been involved in to help local residents affected by the storm. The project is called, “Bridges to Life,” and we are excited to partner with them. He’ll be sharing pictures, videos, and stories of how God is at work bringing hope by building bridges through the love of Christ. I encourage you to come, learn, and prayerfully consider how you can participate in this important ministry opportunity.

For those who cannot make it, we plan to livestream the presentation where it can be seen live, or later on our YouTube channel. I look forward to having Pastor Darrell join us and for the opportunity to partner in service together as the Body of Christ. See you Sunday!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Jeff
