Love Justice Offering Update

Thank you for your generosity. The new amount for our Love Justice Lenten Offering is now $35,071. Praise be to God.

A Note from Pastor Jeff

Dear Church Family,

After worship this Sunday we will have a brief congregational meeting to elect two deacons to fill two unexpired deacon terms. The Nominating Committee is presenting Dot Hutelmyer, who will serve a two year term and Angela Smith, who will serve a one year term. Both Dot and Angela have served as deacons in the past and are willing servants to jump in and ensure that our families have continued care.

As we all know, life situations can change on us at any given time and sometimes our desire to serve is met with challenges that complicate our service along the way. I’m thankful for the service of our deacons who need to step down and also grateful for those who are able to step in and step up at this time. We plan to have an installation service on Sunday, May 24 in worship to install Dot, Angela, and John Newell into their respective roles.

This Sunday we will also conclude our sermon series, Sincere?, as we look at the story of Jesus and Zacchaeus. I look forward to being with you!

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Jeff

Join us this Sunday for Worship at 10:30 am
Sunday School at 9:30am

NEW FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR MEN...

FPC Men and Friends,

We had a great time last Monday at AMB! We decided to meet (for the summer) every Wednesday at 6:30pm at Appalachian Mountain Brewery for a time for us to be together, meet new friends, and sit around the picnic tables having good conversations. This is also a time for us to connect and grow in our relationship with God so invite a friend or two and we look forward to seeing you on May 20th at 6:30pm.

In His Grip,
Pastor Chris

Food for Families

HELP US FEED OUR NEIGHBORS AND THEIR CHILDREN this SUMMER!
Last year, Frank and Jerri Mayberry did a Minute for Mission and asked everyone to close their eyes and try to imagine what it would be like to try to do schoolwork (or any work) if they hadn’t eaten anything since lunch the day before at school. Most of us have no idea what that would be like. And thankfully kids can get free meals at school during the school year!

About 14 years ago, a school counselor made a presentation at First Pres about the “backpack program” that would send food home on the weekends to children whose families struggle to make ends meet. Since these food backpacks were not available in the summer, a group got together and started the Food 4 Families ministry at FPC. Since then, we have provided supplemental family-friendly food boxes and fresh produce every 2 weeks to about 34 families each summer who have been identified by school social workers.

We would love for you to join us in this ministry! Here are some ways that you can help…

PRAY... that the love of Jesus will be evident as First Pres Boone and our partner churches connect with these families through this ministry. And, that God will lead each of us to do our part to be present and love our neighbors.
VOLUNTEER… Volunteers of all ages are welcome to participate!  Take a look at your summer calendars to see if you will be available to help on any of the following dates:
  • SUNDAYS, June 21, July 5, July 19, Aug. 2… noon-12:30pm make and label boxes
  • MONDAYS, June 22, July 6 and 20, Aug. 3... 5:30-7pm pack boxes of food, pack produce, load the bus
  • TUESDAYS, June 23, July 7, July 21, Aug. 4… 9am–1pm deliver food to our partner churches: Bethel Baptist, High Country United Church of Christ, Mabel Methodist, Deerfield Methodist

    VELVEETA DAYS...
if you are not able to volunteer, but would like to help, you can donate a whole block of Velveeta cheese (not sliced) that we will deliver to the families this summer! Just add it to the Food 4 Families display in the Gathering Space... THANK YOU!

You can sign up Sunday at the F4F display in the Gathering Space!

Feed the Hunger Update

We are excited to share a picture of your meals blessing children in Ghana!

Our partner has established feeding programs in the most remote and underserved villages.  We are receiving reports from school headmasters that by providing a hot meal each school day, attendance is doubling!  For many of these children, this is the one meal they are guaranteed each day.  This provides motivation for families to consistently send their children to school.

Our partner is also free to share the gospel within these schools.  He is committed that the good news be presented to the students and teachers with every box of food delivered.  He is able to then connect local churches to disciple these families.

Thank you for feeding the physical and spiritual hunger of the Ghanian people.  We are so grateful for your partnership!
Blessings,

Share VBS Flyers in the Community

VBS is a fun, fun, fun, outreach endeavor we host every summer! Could I get your help? Research shows 69% of parents allow their children to attend if invited by a friend. I will have fliers on the VBS table in the Gathering Space this Sunday until June 15th. Would you pick up a few and leave them where you frequent or hand one to a neighbor or a relative? We want to share Jesus with many kids and we need the church's help to get them here. Thanks! Ms. Erin
Journey through Ireland in Emerald Crossing, where Psalm 23 comes to life! Kids will explore God as Shepherd, Guide, Comforter, Provider, and King through David's story, hands-on activities and fun.
